The Origin Story of Food Day

It all started with a very large zucchini…

In the summer of 2011, an oversized zucchini was harvested by Susan. None of us were good cooks at the time, but we all wanted to put the beautiful vegetable to good use. Since it was large enough to be used in multiple dishes, we decided to split up the zucchini and each make a dish to share with everyone.

The First Food Day

Susan organized the day and was our founding chairman for what would become a series of family events centered around food. We picked simple recipes that would fill out a full-course menu and went to work.

There was a fun frenzy to the day, with five people simultaneously cooking out of the same kitchen, bumping into one another… passing along borrowed ingredients… learning cooking techniques for the first time. Amidst the craze, however, we created many fond memories. Even better, we surprised ourselves with how tasty the food was that we created.

And so the first Food Day was born. We’ve had many fun days since then, with fun food themes and various special guest chefs. It’s become a tradition we all look forward to and hope to continue for years to come. We hope you enjoy the chronicles of our adventures. Allez cuisine!
